Jumia Kenya: Poor Clarity on Jumia Payment Terms

Hi,

I'm writing to lodge an official complaint on your payment terms.

At checkout, (refer to order: CBDP-305773549-9GV) your site clearly provides that one can pay for goods during pick-up either via mobile money or cash.

However, today at your Kampus Mall station I was told I can only use M-Pesa and not cash.

I had to leave your shop, find an agent to deposit the cash, then make way back to pick up the good. This was an unnecessary inconvenience and a waste of valuable time.

Thus, whatever information provided on your site must have been false advertising.

And why restrict all payments to one mobile money service?

Moving forward:

  • You should pull down the notice alleging that cash is accepted at pick-up stations, if indeed this is the position.
  • Avail choices of PDQ, cash and all mobile money services at pick-up stations
  • I demand an unequivocal apology from Jumia for this inconvenience, ahead of my lawyers pursuing the quantum of damages

Note: This complaint is copied to Competition Authority of Kenya and Consumers Federation of Kenya for further action.

Regards,

David Herbling
